Getting an electric guitars package is a dream come true for a lot of beginners that just want to get started.  Or for parents that want to get something nice but not pay too much if the guitar and amp end up in the closet.  The good news is these days a lot of the guitar packages are good to excellent in playing ability especially for a beginner.

When I started it actually cost more and  I remember my guitar was definitely under par.  When I look at what you can get now, thanks to modern production techniques, the guitars are really not bad at all.

Now you’re going to have some experienced player saying it’s not that good but I disagree.  And these days not only do you get the guitar and an amplifier to play through but also lots of times you get picks, strings, strap, cord, even instructional videos or cds.  Some even come with electronic tuners.

It’s a lot better than renting because think about this, if it works out and you learn to play or you’re already a player and you start getting better, you can always upgrade to a better guitar and give or sell your guitar that came with the package.

And since it’s an inexpensive guitar it’s not the end of the world if it falls over and gets scratched or something happens to the amplifier.

When looking around on the net there are several major companies with good names offering these electric guitar starter packages.  Such well known companies as Fender, Gibson, Yamaha, Dean, Ibanez, almost all the major companies.

These companies make fine guitars and know how to make a good beginners guitar.  Sure they will cut a corner or two, I mean you’re not buying one of their top of the line thousand dollar guitars but it’s an excellent guitar to start with.

And most of these companies know how to design and make the amplifier so it will be an excellent addition to the guitar.

Check out the accessories and make sure you’re getting everything you will need to just unpack and start playing.

The good thing about the internet is there are sooooo many websites that will teach you to play, some are even free!  Or just surf YouTube and you will see countless videos on someone showing how to play something at almost any level.

One tip to beginners.  I hear complaints sometimes about the electronic tuners that come with these packages. All you have to do is make sure you have a fresh battery and most of the time the tuner will work excellent.

Here is a guitar tuner that I found online if you don’t have a digital tuner.  Most tuners now have a lit dial or lights that tell you when you’re close to being in tune.  You don’t even have to hear your guitar string.  How cool is that?

And you can always upgrade the individual components once you see you’re going to stick with it because you’re finally able to play that song you’ve always wanted to learn.  I tell you, there’s nothing more fun than playing one of your favorite songs on electric guitar.

I’ve seen players that end up replacing hardware on these guitars because they learned how to play on them and are very comfortable with the necks and sound.  By hardware I mean like the tuning keys, bridge, pickups and such.  As you get better at playing, these are little things that can help when you start becoming an advanced player.  But for now all this hardware is adequate to get you rocking.

I have one friend that learned to play on an electric guitar package and then went on to buy a much better guitar and he used his package guitar to leave in an open tuning to play slide on. If you don’t know what I mean by open tuning, you will if you stick with it and it’s convenient to leave the tuning alone instead of having to turn the tuning keys to get the open tuning.

And most the time the amplifiers that come with these packages are plenty sturdy and loud.  Some even have output jacks for headphones so you don’t disturb the rest of the house.

So what are you waiting for, stop dreaming and pick up an electric guitar and start playing!
